• El Jem's Amphitheatres Tuesday 30 June 2009

  

  At the end of May I was in Tunisia for a week. There I visited the amphitheatres of El Jem. In the beginning three of those amphitheatres were build in El Jem during the reign of the Roman Empire. Two of them are located somewhat out of town, but what remains of them are only the fundaments. The third and largest amphitheatre is located in the center of town and is preserved the best, although a lot of renovation has taken place. This theatre also served as a film location for the movie 'Gladiator'.

  I was there for an afternoon to take some pictures. You can see the result below.

• Bought a new camera lense Thursday 21 May 2009

  I just bought a new camera lense for my Canon EOS400D; the EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM zoom lense. This lense is ideal for zooming in on distant objects. I will bring it with me to Tunisia.

  It has image stabilization which comes in handy when taking pictures from the hand. Unfortunately I had to buy a new carrying bag, since this lense is rather large and it would not fit in the current bag together with the camera.
